Para Picar

Zine

Anyone who knows me knows I love Spain. I’m fascinated by the country and the way it makes me feel. Often with the things you love it’s hard to put your finger on why. So, to explore, I tend to make things.

I began making digital collages. The more I made, the more I wanted to show them together. Ben introduced me to zines. I felt like zines gave me permission to explore niche topics. Zines have no rules. As someone with no formal training other than Art GCSE, I felt safe to do my own thing. Now, I’ve fallen in love with zines. They are open to all audiences, all makers and all topics.

Riso printing is similarly open to all. The printing process has the right level of rules to guide and anchor the new artist whilst providing the freedom to create whatever you want. It also looks retro. This was key for the nostalgic tone I wanted the zine to have. Good memories and a yearning to revisit is what travel becomes once the holiday is over.
